Late again....

I have always been bad at blogging, oddly enough its not a lack of information but it is a lack of motivation. I have always felt that no one reads these things and that no one watches the shorts and films i put online, my demo reel, etc. BUT people do watch them, not sure why and I do get work, thank the lord. I am leaving town for a few weeks, and I am shooting for the food network and a company that I hope will hire me as a full tie guy sometime soon. But seriously I will be shooting with the food network and I will be trying to update this as much as possible. Whats better than a public diary that no one reads? right?

This should be called "the life of a post BFA film student" It would probably warrant more readers.

#7 - It is really hard for me to be on the same page as my friends sometimes. Often we are similar on topics and currents events but what we want to do on Friday is a problem, OR we have absolutely nothing in common but we try to go out as much as possible. I am a lucky man that myself and my girlfriend often agree with time and place. It makes our life both easy and hard, which can be annoying.

The Time has Come

Today I really felt the weight of my projects and life situations all at once. Well I suppose that's why I haven't been sleeping and why last night I didn't sleep. I have a feature length documentary i am supposed to be directing and shooting starting as soon as next week. the severe lack of information I have about this project plagues me on a daily basis. I was really excited about it and when the information stopped coming that excitement has been slowly fading and hope is being lost.
The next project i know only very little on, but i hope to know more within the next two weeks. a lighting position with the company I shot for in December has approached me abotu possibly doing the same work on a new film they are doing, longer and bigger this time. BUT their pre-production over laps mine and they shoot 10 days after I shoot my Final project for school, which brings me to that.
My final project of my college career is in pre-production land. One thing i am very very proud of and lucky to have is the crew. My crew have gone above and beyond in many ways already and we have really just begun. I am excited to see their work and my work come together with this project. My biggest fear here is affording to make it to the caliber i think it deserves. Bringing me to the final issue for the complain-a-thon
With all of these projects and meetings, and paper work, and tons of people i work with in various ways every day..I still have zero income. This being said I am on the job hunt and am interviewing weekly, I have another interview on Monday. We can all hope this goes well. Money is an issue I wish I did not have to worry abotu while working, but...well doesn't everyone wish they didn't have to worry about? Though all is well and hopefully everything will work out. And when it does i will have survived 3 major projects and a job. That will be a good feeling...will it not?

#6- To me the most comfortable outfit in the world (and would be 'the outfit' were i a cartoon character) is a pair of old worn in jeans, flip flops, and a thin white t-shirt. I am in heaven in these clothes and you may seem me wearing them far too often.

The zine?

So I started a web zine many months ago and work has always flooded me when i have enough energy to actually work on it and it has never gotten finished. I know the writers and proof readers are probably really unhappy abotu this. But i only have so much energy and even less motivation at times. I think I will give it another shot this week, and maybe..just maybe actually finish it. I'd really like for people to see it and I'm really worried it looks like crap.... oh well

#5- I can build almost any type of furniture on any level. from scratch, in a box assembly required, repair, anything. I am good with that kind of manual labor. Just a gift at birth I suppose.

How I spent my Day

Well Today I was able to do a full edit of the script...yep that's all 19 pages of it. Talked to my costume designer and made progress on the budget. Made some progress on locations as well. And even got a very small amount of details on the Doc I am shooting this summer. And of course cooked myself a pretty great dinner and watched a movie. Ninja assassin (pic)

#4: I can fix / work on almost anything given the right tools and basic instruction. I have always been able to take things apart and put them back together. And it is something I enjoy doing a lot of the time.

Day 3

So I basically failed for 2 days on blogging, BUT i did leave town and was at unfamiliar computers so that is...kind of an excuse? I went to the Italian Festival this year, ate a lot, and hung with the family. After leaving I stayed at home and hung with my puppy. so all in all a decent day. Should have/could have gone out and seen people but i guess I wasn't in the mood after this last week.

#3: I really really enjoy myth busters and select tv shows. Even though i dislike tv in general. I could go years only watching movies and dvd's....really.

This Week in Gabe land

Didn't really do anything today. What a slacker. I will be getting much more work done after today though for sure. I am meeting with my production designer for my movie tonight. Hopefully we will make some real progress. I have a full crew already and we don't shoot till August, people have been really great abotu signing on, even with the script still needing work. Also my magazine shoudl be done by the end of this week too, it has been a long time coming. So many projects, so much time, so little energy, hahah.

(Pic Related) #2: All my favorite TV shows are canceled before they get very far. Or I discover the show after it has already been canceled. Oh well. My favorite of the Canceled were Firefly and Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles.

A New Direction?

Ok, so I am going to make a effort to update this blog every day from now on. It will not be focused entirely on my art, or films, but whatever I feel like putting here on that day. so who knows what the future could hold. Also there will be some random fun fact about me at the end, and if nothing else the picture will be related to that.

So for my non western art history class I decided to tinker in 2 eras of Japanese art and style. I think they turned out pretty well and authentic. But all in all just an experiment. I have them in separate photos but I am showing them next to each other here. Its pretty clear the similarities and differences. Kinda cool methinks.

I really am not huge on the idea of collage. I do enjoy the image transfer kind o thing. All in all this is not really my style but they were a fun little experiment.

The Wooden PC

So this was a gateway Pentium 3 PC...ya know the big beige plastic case? yeh one of those. I disassembled the entire thing and removed its metal frame and inner parts. Used a steel brush and a power drill to wear all the paint and extra crap off. then built a new frame with all wood pieces, removed the buttons and replaced them with sanded dowels and re assembled the PC. It powers up, the cd drives comes out and all the buttons work. Though I did this a bit rushed. I'd like to try again in more steam punk fashion. less wood obv. I think the wood looks cool, but i'd like a more industrial style.

Maybe a laptop is the next step? Or a monitor?

Ok so this is some sketches that have been around a week or 2 plus some drafts of a project I'm working on the multiple frames are just brainstorming, but when i get the final up you can see how it turned out. **also I think I've fixed the links so they lead to regular full sizes of the thumbnails as opposed to the upload site I used** (my scanner currently hates me so these are pictures..sorry)

Hey, So I'm in a summer class called 2D Design and Color Fundamentals (like color theory) where I'm gonna be creating alot of work for a few weeks. So I'm gonna begin posting...all of it the rough sketches and the finals and pretty much anything else I make this summer. Some will look really weird cause I'm not gonna post the assignment sheets, but you'll be able to see them anyway.
